My Classmates

What can I say! We are all so different. Yet each person brought in their own unique ways- sayings- habits whatever it may be. Learning patience for each other is also a life lesson. I watch some of the younger ones and how their tolerance isn't much. Heck sometimes I can't tolerate things either. But in a dental office - I can handle uniqueness- even if its an effort to be around. BUT laziness and selfishness I can't handle and as most of my friends no it really bugs me and hurts my feelings. I hope that my classmates know I love each of them for who they are- and the examples each of them were to me in their own way. Weird how we find a few and stick to them- its comfortable- we become them--- right Linda? or is it Marilyn? oh shoot I don't know who I am. Lauren- Heidi! But even though we kinda buddy up I felt connected to so many and hope that they know how special they are in my life. I hope they looked past my imperfections and forgive me for my crankiness! Class of 2011- I truly am going to miss you. Don't be a stranger!

Last Lunch-

How is it possible that it seemed this week would never come and now that it is here I wonder how it could have gone by so fast. Isn't that just life tho. Hurry it up-- no I change my mind slow down. Will this ever be over. Can't believe its over. Learning to love each day regardless is a lifelong process. Wish I could say that I was better at it then last year. But I find myself wishing it away. My kiddos are 6 & 3. They were 4 and 1 when I started. WOW! Thats when I realize how fast time flies by. Our lunch was fun- and it was nice to have the faculty in the wetlab with us. Mr. Salomon might even actually like us after all. I don't know what they were talking about but he was laughing with the 7 or so around him. I was browning tortillas and helping my kids but it was a nice way to end the clinic days- good memories. NOT to forget- Our Professor Alexander was teacher of the year at WSU- so we were celebrating that as well!

PE & Clinic manual

I have decided that this project is going to take much more then 100 hours. WOW! Wish I could continue to help- its so much to do. Everything takes time- and the more people with their hands in the pot it seems the LONGER it will take. Hope some of my ideas helped!

Saying Goodbye

I hate that part- Saying goodbye to friends/classmates/professors/midtown. Really breaks my heart!!! Hopefully life will bring them back around more often!

Sealant Clinic

AH! whooops- no kids brought permission slips! REALLY!!! This was free dental treatment 32 students (first years were there as well) AND no kids. I am sure Bossenberger was beside herself- to go through so much effort and it not work. We ended up doing clinic check out and finishing paper ! Where did the time go- never got to taking my test! Or finishing my PE project. Well 7 weeks till graduation day! Hope its done before then!

Last Day of Clinic-

Well I cleaned my board patient - it wasn't something I wanted to do til I got my results- but I have no idea when I would be able to finish his mouth like I had promised. Here is to hoping I did okay that day. Then my little chicklets came in! YAY! They did great. McKinley's baby tooth- wiggled out in my chair and Summit got his first cleaning! LAST DAY TO PAY FOR EVERYONE'S cleanings!!!!!! Oh well another $70. Add it to the 40,000!

Wreb- what the!?

Its been 4 weeks today! Still no wreb results. Seriously killing me!

Boards- what was wrong with me?

I don't know about others - but my hand had its own mind that day- and shaking was its main priority. So I survived the written- without a heart attack- opening that envelop was torture. Then to get into the test and have a osseous contact- redirect- positve aspiration- new set-up and still pass the PSA. Wow! By the time I got to the IA I thought I was going to pass out. Amazing I passed that one too!
Friday for clinical I was a mess- really should have taken a valium. Pt showed- qualified 1st submission but wouldn't let me get him numb. I was so worried about hurting him I dont' know if I passed- won't know for two more weeks. Absolutely CRUEL!

Our new class Motto!!

STOP COMPLAINING AND KEEP WALKING ~Pam Carranza
Saying goodbye to our sweet Pam wasn't so easy- I have so many "wish I would have's" going on in my mind!
There is much to be said about the squeaky wheel getting the oil and wish it wasn't always that way. Our Pam never squeaked- never complained. How amazing she was and now knowing exactly how much pain she was in and the "back" pain wasn't just muscles but 3 fractures. All the while the cancer deteriorating her heart and lungs- so not fair. Her funeral was amazing in the sense that the speakers, her dad-her aunt-and her mentor hygienist. They talked of Pam perfectly and her dad related the story when Pam told him to stop complaining and keep walking. Way to go Pam! YOU will be missed but you will always be in our hearts for your courage and endurance! Save me a seat cause I know your where I hope I end up!

March 24th- clinic

Well just another fabulous day in the clinic :)! I didn't get any of my PE's passed off -oh well. Only 4 clinic days to go and have 8 PE's left! What to do What to do? Wish me luck.
My 8 a.m. was turned away because she didn't have a parking pass- she had to go down to the information booth after she had come in- I tell everyone of my patients to do that- but the one time I forget because of the funeral yesterday-there is no exceptions? Just didn't realize they would send them down AND not tell us they are here just not in the building. Needless to say it got me behind for my 9:10 patient. But I had two great patients- no complaints.

Um has it really been this long since I last posted...

Guess with all the stress of boards, projects, requirements, sick kids, sick me, Blogging doesn't seem to come to mind.
Today was a good day at the VA, I have all my "requirements for cleaning" and for radiology I was missing 5 panos!!! WELL well WELL, gotta love Shera and Connie at the VA I took 4 panos today. So down to 1 YIPEEEEEEEE.
Was able to do an OD and hand off class IV and III to another student. Saw a IB and then a class V that only had 3 teeth- WOW so at least I got 1 quad.
Busy week... LA mockboards on Thursday... Summit's surgery is on Friday, my bigger worry.
But as of today we are on the home stretch... less then two months till graduation. HOLD on--- so much to do in the next few weeks.

1st day of clinic at WSU spring 11'

So far so good.
WEnt home to a flood in my basement last night of a backed up drain--- seriously?
Of course Hubby is outta town for the next few days. Life of a single parent(parttime).
As for today: Nice patient this morning.. really don't like the language barrier. It feels like such a dis-service when you feel like your not able to really communicate.
My first patient this afternoon -no show...hoping my mockboard/board patient can be here in the next few minutes- take some xrays and do the charting. Then a 2:30 is coming, 16 yr old.. who had lots of susp areas last year. Hope that he has had them taken care of.

1st day back- at VA and Tal-Eval

Well survived the first clinic day back this semester. Tal-eval shouldn't be so bad. At least we hope! Won't know till we start getting our grades :) My patients were fantastic and already 8 quads of a V. Thinking I might be overloaded with those this semester. Oh well! Should be fast right!
Boards and registering is driving me nuts. Gives me so much anxiety!

What day is it again?

Oh yeah Its Tuesday... clinic day. I am so so so so so tired all of the sudden. Morning patient...Class V, hurray!!! Afternoon patient was 2 quads of class III, 2 quads of class II.
Both great patients. Morning patient had staining from all her tea drinking...next appointment I will use the air powder polisher!! dreaded thing. But her anatomy demands a little more then prophy paste/cup, I even used the prophy brush.
Afternoon patient had 2- 3 unit bridges, 1 4 unit bridge, 8 crowns, ton of recession... and decay on an abutement. The cement was irritating the tissues at the margins of the crowns on the all ceramic crowns. OH it makes me appreciate restorationless patients... :)
Going to love patient interaction in the office- someday. People are so kind and neat.

1/2 day clinic sweet relief :)

Nice to only have a half day of patients to work on. :O) Since my class III canceled for this morning. I did have a great replacement patient that I saw last february.. LOVE her.. What a sweet patient. I felt bad.. first time I really saw the effects of stress. Patient had really great pocket readings last time.. no bleeding.. but today wow! 4's and 5's in even the premolars... not as much build up in her mouth but her gums were very unhappy. It was a good experience to really talk to the patient about such circumstances and how to compensate for stress in life.
thank you KIMMMERSSSSSS!!! gave me a quad of her patient<> for mock boards and I took her xrays.. I love my friends in the program. Tiauna was cleaned up my room...Linda came and cleaned it again... HOW efficient they are :) Nice to have help!!

P.M

a little disappointing...
OH well.. it all works out right!
So the patient I was overwhelmed with last tues doing her OD in less then an hour-- class III localized IV, well she was my afternoon today... wobbly anterior lower centrals.... well she didn't show.. Mr. Salomon called her 15 to 1... talked for 10 mins.. guess she was confused and hung up... well she showed up after I had a pt from the lobby in the chair. What to do. Not the right thing to dismiss my patient..whom I just started..didn't feel right. He was only a 1B who had never had his teeth cleaned in his whole entire life.. he was 20 with practically no calculus.
Anyway my original patient went with another student... missed out on a really interesting patient...good experience... and a pano. Something good always comes to those who share, right? Hope so. I can't think about the work that goes into an OD --lack of being able to clean them. Oh and the fact that I am down a few clinic sessions from lack of VA scheduling me a patient one day and me being sick..
Just hope I get all that I am supposed to.. just don't have many quads.

A.M.

late pt. difficult 6 yr old. never seen a dentist/hygienist. Biggest tongue I have seen on a little person.. wouldn't open.. OH for the LOVE. And they were late. Put me behind.
HHX wasn't given to my second pt although it clearly said NEW PATIENT NEEDS HHX and Chart... hmm.. So pt came early like I asked to fill form out. So I was running late he sat out there for 40 mins... 25 past his appointment time and then when I brought him back he needed to still fill out form! SERIOUSLY... so after doing the OD.. I only had 15 mins.. Prof didn't want me to start. Bummed. I could have gotten a quad done. OH well.
Lets see how the afternoon goes... :)

Better day...

Total confusion with Patients... My morning and afternoon cancelled. Had my neighbor and husband coming in the afternoon to fill that..but my neighbor came up by 830 when my pt cancelled at 745 in the morning.... Then my hubby had to take my son in to Dr. ...both ears have bad ear infections. So he wasn't going to be able to come...
Ended up seeing 1B, new pt OD classIII, class II, and a Ia. Good day... :() )
