torture....Having a break and then trying to get back into the groove should be easy but it is torture to me. I would rather not have a day off till I am done.. Just so when I am done I can push the off button for awhile. Rebooting this old lady takes a lot more energy!!!! I just want to go on vacation right now and stop processing information. Not that I don't love the program. My little brain can only hold so much information and unfortunately has a mental block I can't seem to get around. Dang these last tests are going to be rough.

Another day in paradise!
My hubby came in today as my FIRST real patient. He was very patient and kind, as he should have been:)!
Only a quad done. Although I think I could have done 3 in the time waiting for my first scale check. Thats okay-though! Didn't miss anything.
Angelic helped me understand alittle better how to classify. I am confused on actual boneloss that means perio instead of normal. OH well--that is what I am here for, to learn.
Fun to see everyone's family and friends. To see faces of people we talk and mention in our lives!
Tah tah--need to study for anatomy- scary!

I am wondering if my head is going to explode. I now have a permenant heart beat in my right ear. I haven't felt 100% for awhile but today...wow!
Kadee was another terrific patient. She seemed alot more uncomfortable this time around even though I felt I was much better today then last week. I hope it really was her teeth that have suscipious areas and not my cleaning. Poor girl--either way it makes me feel bad for her.
Well I felt a little more relaxed inside today. I even tried some different scalers.
So glad I passed off my sealant last week..one less stress.

HOLY Crap

I don't know how everyone seems so calm..when inside I am screaming. I wasn't as smooth as I was hoping to be. I struggled with probing quickly. I knocked over my TV tray with a loud crash. My papers went flying and pens too!
I was able to pass off my sealant today.
Kadee was a great great patient and very patient with me. OH GIRLS I hope I get faster ...4 quads in 30 mins? CRAZY
Oh well.. oh and the charting.. I probably take longer charting then treating. VERY ironic..

Another application of flouride. Varnish is not my favorite.

We learned how to sharpen. REALLY dislike that sound, as bad as fingernails on the chalkboard.

We were able to pass off powder polisher and flouride. I tried to practice scaling--what has happened. I feel like I have never even tried. Wish I would have practiced probing..Maybe next week!

HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Well another Monday has come and gone. Not to bad.

We each did a sealant, then passed off our selective polish PE, which was teaching TB technique-- which I thought was more in the OHI PE, but if you do the whole mouth I guess it would be a TB polish. It also involved the rc- aka rubber cup, also included the maintenance for the handpiece.

We are all a little scared for the powder polish day-- only because we don't want to get microdermed with salt all over our face! OH- the learning we do.

Can't believe its NOVEMBER! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Can't wait for Christmas break with my kiddos.

POWDER (SALT) everywhere!!!

HOLY, alot to accomplish for everyone. Powder Polish a penny, Full mouth Powder Polish, Prophy Polishing, Floss, Flouride Varnish, then switch. Then do a PE on Dental Screening aka Charting all sorts of crazy things. WOWOWWOWOWOWOWOWOW! Okay I have to admit I love working in the mouth. Even found subgingival calc today between 22 and 23 and it was a greyish color! So fun to remove.
Have another sick child. Which isn't fun!! Poor Kiddos. Vomit is just not a pleasant thing in anyway shape or form. Especially when it isn't in the toilet.
Well Running late.. gonna finish and take a break for RAD.

ULtrasonic, ULtrasonic, ULtrasonic!!
Fun-- Talk about a shower for you and your patient!
Heidi did great!
We were able to pass off our intraoral camera PE and the OHI PE. I was disappointed in the OHI PE, I guess I was expecting to tell the faculty what the PE said, not in layman's terms. However I understand that is the way we will be describing gingivitis and perio to our patients. Just mis-understood the way it was to be done. OH well. I was sufficient enough.
Ready for a nap. I love to be the patient!:)

Wednesday

We tried to run through HHX, HHXRx, Dent: extra/intra, Perio, OHI-- treatment planning and perio probing... now I see why our patients will be coming back over and over again.
HAD a terrible PFI score...whoops. Need to floss.
Passed off Eaglesoft Tx Plan.
CRaZY Busy day!

Monday Monday Monday
Tiauna was an excellent patient today! We were able to practice scaling and and passed off the universal instrumentation.
We went over intra-oral camera and were able to take pictures. I love it! I miss having a foot pedal to take it instead of pushing a button on the handle. OH well! lots of adjustments.
Scared for the week of tests and quizzes. A three day weekend that felt like half of a day. And I am not sure where that even went.
Tah Tah!

Wednesday

back at it early this morning... started with my spinning class that starts at 530. That alarm goes off to quickly. My little guy has had a mouth full of cankers and so he has been getting up alot and crying out. Poor little guy. Wish there was an instant cure.
Can't sign in to eaglesoft. Server down? on the agenda today..instrument identification, universal scaler pass off, and eaglesoft PE tx planning. Hope to be able to get to them all.
Going over dental screening and pt charting.
Today we went over dental screening/charting..I was partnered with cute Lauren. We don't get to learn much when everyone has like flawless teeth. But Good practice with exploring and using the mirror for evaluating.
We have some down time so I passed off the instrument identification. Have two more I could pass off but they keep telling us to hang on to some for the practice time next week.
I would like to just pass them off and then really practice next week and go over probing and things I need more time to get faster and more efficient.
Wow --just looked up and the snow is further down the mountain..WINTER is coming!

Monday, October 12, 2009

Is it Monday again? ALREADY? Crazy. Today was busy. Disclosing each other, learning how to do plaque, how to chart a little more. In my case..how not to chart. Whoops.
Got to work on Kristen today. She was fun and she did great!
I need to work on instrument identification PE that is due on WEdnesday! Scary.:) Well better go print off my modules for tomorrow.
Nighty Night!

Wednesday, October 7, 2009

Hello Wednesday. I think half my brain stayed at home today. Somedays its a breeze to comprehend and do what is asked. Today...eaglesoft is easy. But the universal scaler..well I struggled. Guess that why good days are good. Bad or awkward days are just not as much fun.
Didn't need to pass off anything today.
Tiauna did great as my hygienist. She's great to be pod partners with.
Well that is all today..lunch then radiology. Will I survive :)?

Monday, October 5, 2009

Happy Monday! Woke up to a down pour which turned to snow.. now its just overcast and cool.
TA'd this morning in Radiology. Hope the girls don't mind and definitely hope I am a little helpful.
Well we got to scale the anterior teeth today with the NEBRASKA, Yipee!! Kadee was a fabulous patient...even with my occasionally poking! Just to keep her awake of course.
OH last Wednesday I did get to pass of my perio probing so I am done with all the PE's for now.
I was finally able to be a patient today.. my cold sore is nearly gone.
Excited to learn to scale the posterior teeth on wednesday.
I can't believe it is October already! CRAZY
Love the fall colors..makes me want to go to New York..the best and most beautiful colors.
ByeBye till Wednesday:)

Rain- Its Fall and Dark!

Fall is here!
Its my dad's Birthday.. he was driving to his satellite office 70 miles from our home town. He gave me a little talk on probing. OH Dad! Special touch he says... to hard-bad, not hard enough I will miss the pockets.
Still have cold sore. Not going to be a great pod partner today, bummer. It is almost gone. Wish it would be okay to work on.
That was a lot of instruments. I don't think I will know the names...yet. Only a few of them. Didn't get a grasp on the rigid, non-rigid, more rigid consept. Their is a serious grey area for some of those classifications.
I was able to pass off the explorer PE. Still worried about the Perio Probe PE. I struggle with the fulcrums when I am recording the distal of the 2nd molars. I drop down to the lower arch for a fulcrum without thinking about it and then I can't figure out how to do it in the upper. IT is fustrating.
T and I won the pod set-up game. Although Kadee once again took first hyg to get it ready.
Excited for fall season. I love the colors. Then christmas... love decorating for Christmas!

CAN I SAY MONDAY!!! HOLY! I can't even say my name right today...mmmmmmmarmarmarilyn. Trying to say all the intra-oral exam terms, tongue twisted today.
WE got to use our explorers today in clinic. It was a new concept. I just hadn't actually thought of the process of zigzagging the teeth supra and sub. I have decay on the brain and not finding abnormalities or calculus.
Getting superrrr anxious to learn to scale. I want my typo-dont to be sparkling!
Loving the classmates and their personalities. Great girls. Don't feel like we are over a decade apart in age.
Poor "T" couldn't work on me. I had a coldsore show up 4 days ago. I have been on meds and ointment. But it has to be pretty much gone before they can work on me.
Passed off instrument grasp and fulcrum, as well as intra-oral exam.
Nervous to pass off my PE for probing. Maybe next time.

Good old Wednesday Clinic came and went!
WE were able to practice probing our pod pals!!! Poor Tiauna!
We charted as we probed! Just one quad. I am starting to see why it takes 4 hours :)
Passed off extra oral and mirror fulcrum. Another great day in the clinic!
OH had a race to set up! Kadee was the winner!
Sure love our ta's and faculty help.

Monday, September 21, 2009

Hi there...
What a weekend. Is it really monday? Am I really here? Took the DH test 1 this morning. Ummm not as good as I can do but oh well, gotta stop stressing!!!
Today in clinic we went over intra oral eval and fulcrums. Make sure we are finding all the pathology possible areas.
Its nice to get into the mouth. HOwever relearning my fulcrum points isn't fun. I also have a wondering pinky! Darn thing!!!
Hope to get my Vital Signs passed off today. We will see..lots of HH need to be passed off.
See you Wednesday! :)

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Good MORNING! not awake yet! Need some Diet Dew.
Should be a fun day today. We get to play in each others mouths. Learn fulcrums, mirror, explorer and probing! YAY :)!
Excited to go to UDHA this weekend and hangout with the class. Want to stay in Park City for days! Anyone got some extra cash? , for shopping of course.
Finally!!! We got to get our hands wet:)! We practiced mouth mirror use, fulcrums, and Tiauna let me practice placing a probe. She is so dang trusting!! Thanks Tiauna. It is alot easier on a patient then on our typodont! Although reading the probe indirectly will take some getting use to.
I was able to pass off the Health History. A little nerve racking , need to review all reasonings behind premed use. That was good to know. Hope to remember all the places to look and fill out correctly!
Off to lunch!

Happy Monday!

What a day!! I hate WSU parking. I tried to come at 9 to study before clinic--- noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo parking anywhere. UGH!
Went sharping and ran errands, not a total waste of time.
Today in Clinic we are practicing taking vitals. Our arms are nearly squeezed off at this point...actually the girls did great! We have a smart class! Hurray!
Okay better start our health history practice.
Be back in a jiffy....
Again we went over HH HOLY that is alot of info!!!!!
Will I EVER remember.
Okay off to practice the vital PE and HH PE.
See you WED!

Its a Great Wednesday!

ITs 750, washed hands, op, cavi'd, ran lines, set-up, clocked in, What am I forgetting?
Only 60 degrees this morning. Got myself and kids out the door at 7 and without much stress, YAHOO!! What could happen today though! We shall see.
OKY DOKY, We went over the HHx and how to chart it on the pt chart. We went over looking at the drug reference book. We have to chart alot of info, and know how it might affect the tx we give and/or the pt health.
I was able to pass of the maintenance PE, and practice the positioning PE.
Appreciate all the TA's and adj. Its nice to have so many hands on WED. Monday is harder to have one on one advice with faculty.
Maybe I'll be back today to post. Maybe not:)!!

Another day in the clinic....

OH boy these early mornings come a little to quickly. Rough night with kiddos, hubby traveling for work. Just hit a tired wall this morning while we were listening to the HHx discussion. Nearly fell off the chair. WhOOPs!!
We went over the positioning for the operator. 8,9,10-11,&12. Light positioning. Correct Posture. That will be a hard habit to break. But if it keeps me from getting such a stiff neck after a day working it will be worth it.
I can't wait to know how to use scalers so I can go to town cleaning up the typodont and patients too.
I was able to pass off exposure set-up today. Hope to get to the tear down as well.
Really like the staff and adj staff.
Have way through week two.
Was able to pass off the post appointment PE. We also made our charts today.
Sooo ready for lunch:)!

Week 2, day 1, 3rd day in Clinic

Hey there,
Survived week one! YAY! and Had a great Weekend! Got to sleep in with the kiddos this morning. LOVE the half day off monday morning.
Tiauna and I just took turns having each other rinse with mouthwash and be a patient to practice rinsing with the air/water syringe , saliva ejector and HVE.
We have also went over the beginning of the day procedures and barriers. We seem to be done so fast. Just waiting for the official demonstration of the tear down procedures so we can clean up the operatory.
We have now gone over the tear down. And walking our dirty tray to the ultrasonic solution putting instruments in. I have never shut off the ultrasonic to put in additional instruments. RELEARN! Stop and then restart for 15 mins. Got it.
Able to pass off PPE PE today. Good reminders how to keep cross contamination and infectious materials from being a hazard.
OKay we just finished learning the Post Clinic Maintenance. Waxing the metal parts, running lines with Solution.
Was going great till I was refilling the solution bottle and instead of turning the water off I turned it full blast and it went everywhere up all over the walls, me, instruments that were drying. UGH!! Tiauna was the only witness but still embarrassing!!
All done I think. I am sure we will be reviewing and touching over the next things on the list.
Good day. The op's smell like a waxed car.
Tah Tah for now.

Clinic Day 2
Well we had a great reminder of how many ways we could cross contaminate. We will be using lots of barriers. Not to mention we are going to be hot hot with a mask and glasses on while we clean up and tear down.
I like our little cheeked mouth. I can't wait to get in there and clean off that calculus. Can't wait!!
I am going to be reminded how bad my posture has gotten over the last 15 years of assisting. Yikes.
We met our wednesday adj. faculty and TA's.
I was able to pass off the PE for eaglesoft. Next PE's are the set-up and tear down of the operatory. Hope to remember all those steps.
Getting to know the girls-- love em.

First Day in Clinic

First day in Clinic!
We did exercises to familiarize ourselves with the clinic and dental hygiene department.
We got our operatories and drawers.
Already had to get help with the drawer- lock seemed broken. Mr. Salomon works wonders quickly.
Met our clinic instructors. Whoops I can't remember their names. HELP!
I am trying to remember all the new faces.
Ran into a 2nd year who I taught Dental Assisting 3 years ago too. CRazy! She gets to help me get through my 1st year of Hygiene.
My PEER pal is great. She gave me a welcoming gift.
OVERALL pretty great first day. I think I might come back tomorrow. ;0)
Got here early today to return books and go
over the schedule for the week.
Not sure that was a smart move. I feel a little unprepared and
feel like I am going to forget what I need or when I need it and where I need it.
Getting a little more anxiety as the day rolls on.
OH HOW DO YOU HAUL THAT MANY BOOKS AROUND?
I thought my book back was a decent size. Guess its time for the
luggage with rollers :)!

First day of our Hygiene adventure!
Happy am I!
WE are almost through our orientation day!
This is my first blog! Lots of firsts today!
Now to remember everyone's name, where we are suppose to be and when. OH and what we are suppose to bring--all those books and 3 inch binders to hold the modules for each class!
