Learning from my mistakes.. turn toe a little more, and get line angles of 1st molars...
Glad to keep learning... every tip helps!

What day is it again?

Oh yeah Its Tuesday... clinic day. I am so so so so so tired all of the sudden. Morning patient...Class V, hurray!!! Afternoon patient was 2 quads of class III, 2 quads of class II.
Both great patients. Morning patient had staining from all her tea drinking...next appointment I will use the air powder polisher!! dreaded thing. But her anatomy demands a little more then prophy paste/cup, I even used the prophy brush.
Afternoon patient had 2- 3 unit bridges, 1 4 unit bridge, 8 crowns, ton of recession... and decay on an abutement. The cement was irritating the tissues at the margins of the crowns on the all ceramic crowns. OH it makes me appreciate restorationless patients... :)
Going to love patient interaction in the office- someday. People are so kind and neat.

1/2 day clinic sweet relief :)

Nice to only have a half day of patients to work on. :O) Since my class III canceled for this morning. I did have a great replacement patient that I saw last february.. LOVE her.. What a sweet patient. I felt bad.. first time I really saw the effects of stress. Patient had really great pocket readings last time.. no bleeding.. but today wow! 4's and 5's in even the premolars... not as much build up in her mouth but her gums were very unhappy. It was a good experience to really talk to the patient about such circumstances and how to compensate for stress in life.
thank you KIMMMERSSSSSS!!! gave me a quad of her patient<> for mock boards and I took her xrays.. I love my friends in the program. Tiauna was cleaned up my room...Linda came and cleaned it again... HOW efficient they are :) Nice to have help!!

a little disappointing...
OH well.. it all works out right!
So the patient I was overwhelmed with last tues doing her OD in less then an hour-- class III localized IV, well she was my afternoon today... wobbly anterior lower centrals.... well she didn't show.. Mr. Salomon called her 15 to 1... talked for 10 mins.. guess she was confused and hung up... well she showed up after I had a pt from the lobby in the chair. What to do. Not the right thing to dismiss my patient..whom I just started..didn't feel right. He was only a 1B who had never had his teeth cleaned in his whole entire life.. he was 20 with practically no calculus.
Anyway my original patient went with another student... missed out on a really interesting patient...good experience... and a pano. Something good always comes to those who share, right? Hope so. I can't think about the work that goes into an OD --lack of being able to clean them. Oh and the fact that I am down a few clinic sessions from lack of VA scheduling me a patient one day and me being sick..
Just hope I get all that I am supposed to.. just don't have many quads.

late pt. difficult 6 yr old. never seen a dentist/hygienist. Biggest tongue I have seen on a little person.. wouldn't open.. OH for the LOVE. And they were late. Put me behind.
HHX wasn't given to my second pt although it clearly said NEW PATIENT NEEDS HHX and Chart... hmm.. So pt came early like I asked to fill form out. So I was running late he sat out there for 40 mins... 25 past his appointment time and then when I brought him back he needed to still fill out form! SERIOUSLY... so after doing the OD.. I only had 15 mins.. Prof didn't want me to start. Bummed. I could have gotten a quad done. OH well.
Lets see how the afternoon goes... :)

Better day...

Total confusion with Patients... My morning and afternoon cancelled. Had my neighbor and husband coming in the afternoon to fill that..but my neighbor came up by 830 when my pt cancelled at 745 in the morning.... Then my hubby had to take my son in to Dr. ...both ears have bad ear infections. So he wasn't going to be able to come...
Ended up seeing 1B, new pt OD classIII, class II, and a Ia. Good day... :() )

I have never seen so much calculus in my life! He had lingual tori calculus... no probing could be done on lower lingual. And every area had interproximal and facial calculus.
SuPER DooPER nice Patient! It was so hard...one quad after all that.

My afternoon Patient ClassIV with most probing depths were higher then 7 and several spots were above 10 and a couple above 12+ . Patient didn't want to get numb... what the? So yes I went ahead with the upper right. Slowly-- gently. He was fine till the scale check...after the instructor... he said. I am done. We have to reschedule. I tried several times to tell him we can make him so much more convertable with anesthetic. I only had two spots to readdress... but he wasn't letting anyone back in there. OHHHHHHHHH and I was getting sicker by the second. I had so much pressure in my head... I thought it was just the stress of the day... but nope
I went to bed by 6. Got up and no way was I going anywhere..dropped phone in tub of water... went to dr.. had a Eustachean tube infections... and better yet they were blocked or pinched off and that was the pressure building behind the ear but above my throat! HORRIBLE.... Stress of not being able to go to school wed. thurs. and friday... I should have just showed up.. I couldn't rest anyway.
OH WELL-- better now.

HOLY

I am tired.
My class III this morning had so much calculus I couldn't probe the lowers. And couldn't see the teeth from the lingual aspect at all. He was a great learning experience and got to use the area specific ultrasonic tips... and I really think they were on my side!!! I was only able to do one quad..had to spend time cleaning up the lower bridge of calculus so I could probe at his next appointment. He was such a great patient and so kind.
My afternoon IV was crazy hard to probe. I had a 12+ area along with the many many 8, 9, and 10 readings. He didnt want xrays... or anesthetic. I tried to convince him otherwise. I had my instructor come over to show me how to access the areas I felt I was missing and after that he was done. He didn't want me to even touch up the two spots she found.. I just hope he really comes back and lets us use anesthetic and I talked to him about nitrous as well.
OH what a day! Only two quads in 8 hours... not feeling so efficient or productive.
oh well... good good good experience and by far the hardest patients I have seen thus far.

Not sure what to write about.
That I don't know all that I need to? Or that I did okay in some areas.. but still feel so lost in others. I hope that I can figure all the dots of the i's and crossing the t's. Like remembering to have the tx plans printed and signed before I start scaling. I know that I am suppose to but for some reason I finish the OD w the instructor and can't think of anything but scaling :)
Was confused today when I had a pt at the front desk for me and I had a pt in the chair already.
I didn't realize Mr. Salomon did reach my spanish speaking pt and confirmed the appointment and I had already scheduled a screening and 2nd patient for their cleaning. Eric didn't have a patient and went ahead and saw mine, a class III. I have no doubt I will be blessed other ways and have plenty of my classifications I need! right! :)
I have had the greatest patients. I am enjoying myself aTON!!! Not sure how I will ever get it all done in an hour though! :O)

Back at it again!

all sorts of butterflies this morning!
But I was so relieved that I scheduled a pt from last semester so I was some what familiar with his mouth! And he is a unique person and so easy going.
He had quite a bit of build up for 5 months... and was still class II on the lowers and class IV on uppers.. Was able to finish it all and take a PA. It felt good--- and alittle bit like riding a bike :)
Gotta love it!
So nervous about getting all my classifications in tho.

2nd to last day

a bit sad.
I love clinic.
I know it can be stressful. But this is why I wanted to be a hygienist. Wish I did more of it during the week.
Today was a bit confusing. Am I coming am I not. But it worked out great. Glad someone ended up not needing my chair and I could come and see a patient. He was fabulous and very complimentary. I like days like this!
One more week! My daughter tells me on a daily basis she wishes it was summer so I don't have school. Can't wait to tell her next week - its summer!!!

Didn't post on monday..can't remember why. But had a great patient..Class V border II but great experience. First lingual bar I have cleaned. That took some time. She hadn't had her teeth cleaned in two years. WOW, those collect a ton of calculus.
She needed PA's as well! YAY
I hope I understand the classifications according to calculus present.

my little angel

Had my little one in for a sealant on two of her baby teeth. What a great patient.
Passed off the airpowder polisher on her, diagnodent & sealant PE. And did a sealant on another patient..all before 9. Sure wish I could have seen the other little boy today. And my original patient completely no showed. LAME... called him twice. He just had to say he wasn't coming. OH well! such is life.
Off to do a peer calculus removal.

Hello there

Had two more quads of my III today. Great Patient.
Had the opportunity to do several PE's since I already had my OD and xrays done.
Then I needed to take an intraoral picture so I was able to do that one as well.
I feel a little pooped. But it went good. Patient needed anesth. instructor Vining was kind enough to do that for me too.
Well panicking about wed. NO patient!

Its March 6th, a saturday night. I am wondering if I am going to make it another 7 weeks till summer break. This semester has been harder for me then last. I am awnry and all sorts of unorganized, scatter brained. Losing things right and left. Can't remember the simple things. YIKES. Clinic is going okay. I sure wish I could probe faster. MAN I am slow with my loupes. They are suppose to help me, right?
I hope they really do...cause these past two clinic sessions I seem to have struggled more...and way slower.
Well off to bed I suppose. OH wait. I have stats! Dang it.
Guess no sleep yet.

He didn't show! But another patient came in for me! YAY!! And he was a class III. A lot more time needed. He was a great patient.

I can't believe the stress an unreturned phone call can cause. I guess its my own fault. I didn't have his number with me at home. So he didn't get called till this morning. YIKEs.

New Patient..needs it all. Will be a good review if he comes. I have had returning patients so I haven't had the HHx and stuff to fill out.

I did talk to my patient in two weeks. He said he could come if mine didn't show. So I will call him at 12:30 if I don't hear from mine.

Heavy 1B

Really! 4 years of no cleaning and yet he is only a 1B. Good for him though! I don't want to see boneloss..But he made me work for that 1B. Good experience, right!?
Not a great time with the x-rays today. Tipped 2nd molars and narrow arch. Guess what I was taking xrays with -- that fat sensor - would have needed 4 supplements for them. UGH!!!
OH heaven I need a vacation.

Great Patient. IB, she came in half hour late, needed a new HHX, bwx, still got her done and she left early! YIPEE!!!
Still worried about finding my pano and fmx requirements. Not worried that I won't know how to take them. Just finding someone that really needs them and that will pay for them too!!!

Yipee. Two 1A's with xrays and one of them my exam!!!
Great little patients. Little Kyla had her first cleaning. And my daughter was in for a second one in her lifetime. My little McKinley already gets calculus built up on her lower anteriors!!

Wasn't sure how the day was going to be. Got pulled over in the parking lot for speeding. But ended up with a warning. Didn't know that it was 15 mph in the parking lot. I was going 26, in an empty parking lot at 7 a.m.

Finally started and completed a patient in one appointment! She had very little calculus except in the anterior region.
Patient said this was the cleanest her teeth have EVER felt!

It is still stressful and makes you feel like a total idiot! But I am learning, right!? BUTTTTT I feel better today after being done then last week. I was holding tears in last week. Hope this wed goes good to.
